Chiara Gentili

Analyst, Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime

Chiara joined the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime in January 2022 and is currently working on the dissemination and development of the Global Organized Crime Index.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Luiss University, in Rome. For two years, she’s been assistant professor of Political Sociology. During her Master, she spent a six-month period at the University of Nijmegen, in the Netherlands.

Prior to joining the Global Initiative, she worked for almost three years as a research analyst for an Italian think tank dealing with international security and terrorism. Her main areas of interest included the activities and modus operandi of terrorist organizations in North Africa, Sahel and the Horn of Africa.

She co-authored the publication of a book, in Italian, on the evolution of terrorism in the African continent, where she wrote a chapter on the terroristic threat in the Horn of Africa.

Before graduating, she worked for three months with the Italian Embassy in Morocco. There, she also conducted research for her Master thesis, focusing on the Moroccan security approach against terrorism and violent extremism. Chiara speaks English and has a good command of French.
