Steven Broad

Independent Consultant

Steven is currently working as an independent consultant and researcher on natural resource trade and strategy for sustainability. Previously he had been working for 25 years as Executive Director of TRAFFIC, a leading specialist organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development (www.traffic.org). He has three decades of diverse management, technical and policy experience, including wildlife trade research, investigations, CITES implementation and regulation support, policy influence and facilitation;  institutional development and leadership in the non-profit sector; analytical and policy engagement on countering illicit trade; social behavior change; value chain intervention planning; and mobilizing transformational business sector action.

Steven is a member of the IUCN Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Initiative, a Fellow of WWF UK, a Conservation Fellow of the Zoological Society of London and a member of Board of the FairWild Foundation. In addition to that, he is an expert member of the UK government’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Advisory Group (IWTAG). Over recent years he has also acted as a member of the Global Agenda Councils on Illicit Trade and Governance for Sustainability of the World Economic Forum.
