Vice President, Waxman Strategies
Johan is a leader on environmental and technology issues and serves in Waxman Strategies’ Technology practice. His work has resulted in new environmental policies being enacted, more environmental and technology resources being appropriated, technologies being launched globally, and co-financing being secured for impact projects. In Washington, DC and around the world, Johan generates thought-leadership, policy solutions, government and business partnerships, and builds strategies and impact campaigns for business, technology, film, and philanthropic ventures.
Prior to Waxman, Johan worked for Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Inc., where he managed environmental and technology issues globally. Before that he was directing programming at the intersection of environmental issues, national security, and technology at the Stimson Center, a leading U.S. national security think tank. He has also held positions with the Monterey Institute, Oxfam, and Linkoping University.
Johan is an entrepreneur, having co-founded a tech startup – Eprotection – and served as its CEO. He has published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Politico, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy, and appeared on many national and international media outlets.
Johan holds an honors M.A. degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and an honors B.A. degree from the University of Iowa.
