Marcos Alan S. V. Ferreira is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at Federal University of Paraiba – UFPB (João Pessoa, Brazil). He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp, Brazil – 2010) and was a Visiting Researcher at University of Manchester (UK, 2018 and 2019), at Uppsala University (Sweden, 2014) and at Universität Vechta (Germany, 2017).

His articles and reviews have been published in top journals, including the International Studies Perspectives, Trends in Organized Crime, Journal of Political Science Education, Latin American Politics and Society, and Journal of Human Security. He is editor of “Peace and Violence in Brazil”(Palgrave MacMillan, 2021).

Since 2010 he has been focusing his research on organized crime in Brazil and South America, especially the expansion of Brazilian criminal organizations and its governance capacities. Also, he is currently engaged on research on youth agency to overcome violence.
