Mr. Humlegaard graduated from the National Police Academy in 1984 and he holds a law degree from University of Oslo and a Master of Management from the Norwegian School of Business. He has successfully completed the Strategic Command Course at the Academy of Policing in UK and the Senior Course at the NATO Defence College in Rome.
He started his law enforcement career in Telemark and Oslo police district.
After graduating in law, he served several years as a public prosecutor before he took up the position as Deputy Commissioner of Telemark Police district.
He served three years as Vice Governor of Svalbard before starting his career as Principal Consultant in the Norwegian based DNV GL, responsible for projects in Public sector in Norway.
In 2003 he returned to law enforcement as Director of National Mobile Police Service and later on he took up the position as the Director of the National Criminal Investigation Service.
In 2012, he was appointed National Police Commissioner and was responsible for the implementation of the most Comprehensive Police reform in Norway ever. He stepped down as Commissioner at the end of his six-year contract.
He is currently serving as Special Advisor in the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
He has served as Chair of the board of the National Police University College and has experience as the Chair and member of several boards of directors in both private and public sector and NGOs.
He is married and the lucky father of two grown up daughters, and enjoy spending time at sea or hiking in the mountains, to balance his interest in cooking.
