Hans Mathieu has been with the German social-democratic Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) for 22 years, working in Brazil, China, FES headquarters in Berlin, Dominican Republic/Cuba, and – since 2009 – in Colombia. As of 2007, Hans has directed the FES Cooperation Program on Regional Security in Latin America and the Caribbean.
He has an interdisciplinary academic foundation, with a degree from the University of Pittsburgh in comparative economic, social and political development and the comparative governance of industrial policy. Most recently, the focus of his work with the FES has been on political governance and the conflict in Colombia, and on regional geopolitics and the impact of organized crime on democratic governance in Latin America and the Caribbean.
