Founding Director, Kennis: Knowledge for Safety and Good Governance
Dr. Anna Alvazzi del Frate is a Founding Director of Kennis: Knowledge for Safety and Good Governance. She was previously at the Small Arms Survey (SAS), a project of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was Director of Programmes until 2019. Before joining SAS, she spent more than twenty years working for the United Nations, at UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) in Vienna, and previously at UNICRI (United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute), in Italy and in Angola. Between 2019 and 2023 she was the Chair of the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Her career has focused on applied research for evidence-based policymaking through quantitative and qualitative studies on firearm violence and its prevention, monitoring, and evaluation, with particular attention to gender-related aspects. She holds a Doctorate in Criminology from the University of Bologna, Italy.
