Jay Bahadur

Jay Bahadur is based in Nairobi and is co-director of the investigative consultancy Scopus Insights. From 2015 to 2019, he served as the armed-groups expert – and later the coordinator – of the UN Security Council Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea, and its successor, the Panel of Experts on Somalia. His areas of focus include Islamist militant groups such as al-Shabaab and the Islamic State, maritime arms-smuggling networks, piracy, illegal fishing, and natural resource conflict. Bahadur is the author of The Pirates of Somalia.
