Semir Mujkic is managing editor for Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He joined BIRN in April 2017 and has worked as a journalist and deputy editor for BIRN BiH website Detektor.ba.
His investigations included tracing illicit tobacco trade, Bosnian arms and energy exports, public procurements deals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, malign foreign influence and terrorism and topics related to radicalisation.
Prior to joining BIRN, Semir was a journalist with the Online magazine Zurnal, specialised in reporting on corruption in public procurement procedures and on corruption in energy and health sector.
Previously, he worked for three years as a journalist for a fortnightly print magazine Start BiH bringing an analytic approach to news, feature and investigative stories and covering politics, economy and society.
He was awarded Second prize at EU Investigative Journalism Awards in 2019 for investigative series Corruption in Public Procurements; the Best multimedia investigation into corruption by ACCOUNT – Anticorruption Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2018; and UNICEF prize for journalistic contribution for the protection and promotion of child rights in print media in 2016.
He graduated in journalism from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo and has worked as a journalist since 2006.
