Julia Yansura is the Program Director for Environmental Crime and Illicit Finance at the FACT Coalition, a Washington, DC-based civil society organization focused on anti-money laundering. Her work aims to close loopholes that allow the proceeds of environmental crime to be laundered into the U.S. financial system. Yansura has experience researching environmental crimes and illicit finance in a variety of sectors including gold, timber, palm and cattle. She also has experience analyzing money laundering risks related to corporate formation (beneficial ownership), real estate, virtual assets, international trade (TBML), narcotics, and extortion. Previously, Yansura implemented projects related to remittances, mobile money and financial inclusion in Central America. She remains passionate about financial inclusion and is convinced that it is possible to make our shared financial system both secure and inclusive. Yansura has experience working in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Panama, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. She holds an MA in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
