Dr. Chamila Liyanage

Researcher, Centre for the Study of Emerging Security Threats (CSEST)

Dr. Chamila Liyanage specializes in terrorism and political violence, with a current focus on the intersection of authoritarianism and transnational organized crime. She is a research contributor to the Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET), which is hosted by the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King’s College, London. Additionally, she is a member of the Strategic Hub for Organised Crime (SHOC) Research Network at the Royal United Services Institute and a member of the Standing Group on Organised Crime (SGOC) of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). She is also a fellow of the Far-Right Analysis Network (FRAN). Her research has been published in CARR Insight, The Informer, GNET Insights, Vox-Pol, OpenDemocracy, Fair Observer, and the Journal of Illiberalism Studies—part of the Illiberalism Studies program at George Washington University.

She has contributed chapters to edited volumes published by Ibidem Verlag, Columbia University Press, and Praeger Security International. Furthermore, she has been quoted in HuffPost US, TRT World Magazine, The Guardian UK, and Open Italy. She is also a Public Member of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
