Carina Solmirano

Project Lead Arms Trade Treaty Monitor, Control Arms

Carina Solmirano is the Project Lead of the Arms Trade Treaty Monitor, an independent research project at the NGO Control Arms. Previously, she was a government official at the Ministry of National Security (2016-2019), senior consultant on citizen security at the Inter-American Development Bank (2014-2016) and senior researcher at the Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme in SIPRI (2009-2014). Carina has almost 20 years of experience on defense and international security issues, having also worked at the Organization of American States, the Argentine Senate, and the NGO Association for Public Policies.

Carina has taught post-graduate courses on conflict and international cooperation (Universidad de San Andres), international relations (University of Denver), transnational organized crime (University of Denver), and undergraduate courses on international security (Universidad de Buenos Aires) and political theory (Universidad de Buenos Aires).

In 2014 and 2020, she was recognized by the United Nations Regional Center for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) for her contributions to international peace and security in disarmament and nonproliferation.

Carina holds an MA in International Security from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies (University of Denver) and a BA in Political Science from Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina).
