Head of Forest Crime, Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime
Ana is Head of Forest Crime at GI-TOC, leading its NICFI-funded global initiative to prevent forest crimes across tropical forest countries, including Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Gabon, the DRC and Indonesia. Her work focuses on disrupting the criminal networks driving deforestation and associated crimes such as land grabbing, illegal logging, illegal agribusiness and illegal mining, by fostering integrated investigations, law enforcement support, research, community engagement and private sector partnerships.
Previously, Ana worked at UNODC, where she contributed to the first UN global analysis of crimes that affect the environment, leading the Brazil case study. She also worked on human rights mainstreaming across UNODC’s mandate areas, including organized crime, corruption and economic crime, crime prevention and criminal justice, drugs and counter-terrorism. At UNOPS, she worked on climate finance and stakeholder engagement for the Green Climate Fund, coordinating the Africa and Eastern Europe portfolio, and previously, she managed grants for the NDC Partnership. She has also provided technical advisory support to governments on environmental crime prevention and environmental justice, as a consultant.
Ana holds a MA in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies from the University of Glasgow, where she was a fully funded Erasmus Mundus scholarship holder. She holds a BA in Defence and Strategic Management from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and also a BA in International Relations from the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets (Ibmec).
