Throughout his 30 years as a civilian member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), François Mathieu had the opportunity to focus on a wide variety of crime-related issues, such as drug trafficking, economic crime, corruption, money laundering and organized crime. Recently retired from the RCMP, he is currently working as an independent consultant with KPMG Canada on matters related to money laundering, as well as with the Canadian Police College on intelligence analysis training and knowledge transfer strategies pertaining to organized crime.
Upon retiring in early 2020, Mr. Mathieu was in charge of strategic criminal intelligence matters in the RCMP and directed the production of intelligence assessments on a wide range on crime and national security threats to Canada. In previous years, Mr. Mathieu held the positions of Officer in Charge of the Criminal Analysis Branch in Criminal Intelligence and Director of Program Development in the Chief Criminal Intelligence Executive Sector, where he oversaw the program and policy development of criminal intelligence in the RCMP.
Mr. Mathieu was educated at Laval University in Quebec, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (history) and a Master of Arts degree (history). During the course of this doctoral studies, Mr. Mathieu attended classes in Paris at l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales and l’Institut d’études politiques.
