Mariana Souto Zabaleta

Mariana’s research career is linked to her participation in areas of drug policy evaluation both at the national level and in specialized international organizations and civil society organizations. She coordinated various research projects on the problem of drug trafficking in Argentina and the region, specifically looking at the impact of drug policies promoted by the international drug control regime from a critical approach. Her current research interests focus on international cooperation on drugs and the possible transformations, and on the evolution of the drug trafficking problem at national, regional, and international levels.

For more than 20 years she has been an advisor for different areas of government linked to their research topics and the representative of Argentina in specialized international forums for more than 10 years. She is part of different civil society organizations dedicated to drug policy reform. Mariana has published articles in specialized journals and the results of different research projects carried out in the field of drug control policies.
