The Coalition Against Illegal Economies, Cities United for Biodiversity is an inter-institutional platform created to confront the global rise of environmental crime in areas with abundant natural resources where weak regulations, poor enforcement, and complex criminal networks have made these illicit activities highly profitable and deeply damaging to ecosystems and communities.

Officially launched at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia, in October 2024, the Coalition places mayors at its center, recognizing their vital role in tailored policies, coordinating resources, and engaging directly with affected populations. By fostering international cooperation, continuous learning, and knowledge exchange, the Coalition strengthens local leadership through dialogue, training, and capacity building. Supported by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime as technical secretariat, the Coalition seeks to build solidarity among cities, enhance governance, and provide innovative tools to combat environmental crimes and their devastating impacts effectively.
