Ms. Marsh has been working as a Security Analyst for ten years, producing research for clients on issues related to counter-terrorism, human trafficking, security sector reform and refugee repatriation. From 2006 to 2014 she carried out the role of Subject Matter Expert on Counter-Terrorism for the Government of Canada, relaying an expert level of understanding on groups such as Al Qaeda, Al Shabaab and Islamic State.
From 2015 to 2016 she was responsible for monitoring and investigating allegations of human rights abuses and gender-based violence against security forces in Somalia. She subsequently participated in the research on the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) used by Al Shabaab and has briefed a United Nations Security Council Sanctions Committee as a Technical Expert on sanctions violations and armed groups in East Africa.
Ms. Marsh was employed as an Expert Advisor to the European Union on Stabilization in Somalia and has carried out substantial field research on smuggling and trafficking networks across the Horn of Africa and Yemen. She also has extensive experience in law enforcement, as well as training in research and analysis including at the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
