LSE - Conference Room M3

LSE and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime published the first issue of the Journal of Illicit Economies and Development (JIED) in January 2019. The open-source journal aims to provide policy makers and practitioners with in-depth analyses into illicit markets and their potential impacts on the policy planning and implementation in complex settings. The panel will discuss key development perspectives from the first volume of JIED in the field of drug policy, for example highlighting that illicit drug economies frequently drive violence, corruption, exploitation and failures in governance. Researchers and implementers from the drug policy sphere will highlight development implications of illicit economies and policies designed to ameliorate them.
