Next week (12-16 October), the UN is hosting the Conference of Parties to the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime – the UNTOC. This meeting takes place every two years in Vienna, the headquarters of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
For the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, this meeting is a key opportunity for engagement on issues related to the Convention as well as its Protocols on Human Trafficking, Migrant Smuggling and Firearms Trafficking, along with wider organized crime related issues.
This year’s partly online meeting is important because it will launch the long-awaited Implementation Review Mechanism of the Convention. In addition, it takes place on the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention.
We will be taking an active role in a wide range of events throughout the week, the overview is available below.
