The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) congratulates Kristin Kvigne on her new role as Chief of the Norwegian National Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS), as of 1 June 2020.

Kristin has served on the governing board of the Global Initiative since 2017. As a member of the board, she has played an active role in providing governance and strategic direction to the organization, championing its work and ensuring that its activities are consistent with its mandate.

The NCIS is the nerve centre of Norway’s police service in the fight against serious and organized crime. The agency provides assistance in cases that span multiple police districts and supports tactical investigations, forensics, electronic tracking, special investigations, criminal intelligence and analysis. It is also the contact point for Norway’s international police cooperation. The NCIS has national responsibility for producing intelligence and, together with the National Cyber Crime Centre, leads Norway’s police work to combat cybercrime.

Kristin has risen through her career to become a senior and prominent Norwegian law-enforcement expert, and has served in a variety of high-level assignments in Norway. In 2013, she was appointed head of the Norwegian Police Immigration Service, and in 2016 as head of the Police Department at the Norwegian National Police Directorate. She also served as Acting Deputy National Police Commissioner at the National Police Directorate. Due to her experience of Norwegian law-enforcement and expertise in international organized crime, she was appointed as Assistant Director for INTERPOL’s unit on trafficking in human beings at the general secretariat in Lyon, France.
