Eirini Stamouli

Post-doc Researcher & Lecturer, Democritus University of Thrace / Open University of Greece

Dr. Eirini Stamouli is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Hellenic Open University and a Post-doctoral Researcher and Project Manager for the research titled “Corruption and state-corporate crime: the example of health sector”, funded by the Institute for Research and Innovation (General Secretariat for Research and Technology). She is a Doctor of Criminology. The topic of her PhD research is related to security policies on organized crime and terrorism in Greece after 2001 and their impact on criminal policy.

In 2004 she obtained her MA in International Criminology of the Law Department of the University of Sheffield in United Kingdom. She graduated from the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2003. She is a member of Piraeus bar association and works as a lawyer since 2005.

In 2006, she was a trainee in the DG Freedom, Justice and Security of the European Commission and she primarily worked on projects and legal initiatives concerning the combat of organized crime, terrorism and cyber crime. She has worked (2015-2018) as a Special Legal advisor of the General Secretariat Against Corruption (GSAC) (Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of Greece) specialized in anti-corruption and anti-fraud measures and policies, as GSAC has been the Greek Anti-fraud coordination service (AFCOS) in accordance with Article 3(4) of EU Regulation 883/2013.

During her work at General Secretariat Against Corruption she was member of the monitoring team regarding the technical support project provided by OECD to Greece in anti-corruption issues, member of the Greek delegation at OECD Working Group on Bribery (2017) and member of the law- drafting Committee for the protection of Whistleblowers in public and private sector.

She has been a researcher in many European surveys focusing on the criminal justice system and she has written several articles and contributions in the fields of criminology. Her research interests focus mainly on organized crime, corruption, fraud, criminal policy, money laundering and financial crime.

She has worked as visitor lecturer to the Democritus University of Thrace (Department of Social Administration and Political Science) and to the National And Kapodistrian University of Athens. Also, she was (2017-2015) a substitute professor at the School of the Greek Police Officers for the courses Criminology, Police of Public Safety / Criminal Policy, Criminological Theory / Empirical Criminology.
