Solutions Summit is an annual catalytic gathering at UN Headquarters in New York during UN General Assembly high-level week in September. This initiative lifts up and advances the work of exceptional teams who are already developing innovative solutions that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

GIResilience Project was selected as one of the 10 solutions for Solutions Summit 2018.

GIResilience Project Innovator:

Siria Gastelum- Project Manager Mexico https://globalinitiative.net/initiativ…

In areas where organized crime is entrenched, criminals are often seen as providers and policy makers tend to overlook community responses that deal with criminality at a local level. When Siria Gastelum started working on issues related to organized crime, she felt a disconnect between the global discourse and the local realities of places like her own hometown in Sinaloa, Mexico. Siria started the Resilience Project to highlight the extraordinary work of ordinary people, living under the most arduous circumstances. Through research-driven workshops, dialogues, and participant feedback, the Resilience Project identifies the vulnerabilities of communities and highlights the factors that make communities resilient. The goal of the Resilience Project is not to focus on the eradication of crime in a particular area, but rather to incubate and develop existing local initiatives that mitigate the consequences of crime and violence and/or function as a prevention mechanism. Siria’s vision is the creation of a global network that connects resilient community leaders worldwide. To highlight their inspirational and impactful work, and develop resilience-based initiatives in order to protect and empower citizens, who have taken a stand against organized crime.

Solutions Summit is co-organized by shift7, UN Foundation, UN Local2030 and Global Innovation Exchange. The first Solutions Summit in 2015 immediately followed the adoption of the SDGs by all UN Member States. It showed that people already have extraordinary solutions in progress to our most complex challenges. Today the Solutions Summit format has been adopted around the world for gatherings to help solve local and global challenges.
