Michael Mayo is a senior law enforcement professional currently serving as a Fellow at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) in Honolulu, Hawaii. A career federal agent and member of the faculty, he specializes in the intersection of transnational organized crime, regional security, and institutional governance. Previously, Michael served in multiple positions of senior leadership as a U.S. federal law enforcement official. Over a nearly two-decade career, Michael led complex investigations into high-impact criminal threats addressing national security. He has conducted and supervised national security investigations and operations overseas in support of U.S Central Command and U.S. Africa Command during multiple deployments to Afghanistan and to the Horn of Africa. He is a certified law enforcement instructor, forensic interviewer, crisis and hostage negotiator, and former law enforcement weapons and tactics operator. At APCSS, Michael leverages his background in the Indo-Pacific to facilitate security cooperation and education among senior international security practitioners. He holds an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College and an M.A. in International Relations from Georgia State University.
