Benoît Gomis is a researcher, lecturer, and consultant on illicit trade (in legal and illegal drugs) and terrorism. He is a Research Consultant with the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath, where he researches the illicit tobacco trade and the tobacco industry. He is also a Lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, where he teaches graduate courses on the ‘Illicit Trade in Drugs’, ‘The Tobacco Industry Playbook’, ‘Researching Terrorism’, ‘Terrorism and Counterterrorism in Western Europe’, and supervises Capstone Seminar projects on global security.
In an independent capacity, he works with a number of organizations including governments, think tanks, NGOs, companies, and universities. Benoît is an Associate Fellow with the International Security Programme at Chatham House and a frequent contributor to Jane’s Intelligence Review, World Politics Review, and Tobacco Tactics. He has authored over 130 papers, reports, and briefings, and one book. He was educated at Sciences Po in Aix-en-Provence, Loyola University Chicago, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
