Why do migrants die in trucks?

POLICY PAPER LAUNCH:

For protection or profit?
Free trade, smuggling and international border management.

by David Danelo
(former Executive Director, Office of Policy and Planning, U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

The upcoming event will explore the multi-stakeholder landscape of human smuggling and the interplay between border and law enforcement agencies, and smugglers.
Drawing on the Global Initiative’s new policy paper by David J. Danelo, a former policy and planning director of US Customs and Border Protection, participants will examine gaps in border enforcement and customs policies, and their potential contribution to motivate smugglers, when left unchecked.

Speakers:

  • Mark Micallef (Senior Expert, Global Initiative)
  • David Danelo (Author, former Executive Director, Office of Policy and Planning – U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
  • Col. Philippe Rogers (Chief of Staff of the US Mission to NATO)
