Analyst, Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime

Sophia Wolf is an analyst with Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime. Her focus is Libya and the Sahel.

Prior to the Global Initiative, Sophia worked as a social researcher, journalist and interpreter/translator, who has lived and immersed herself in the Middle East for over a decade. Most recently she followed the JCPOA negotiations whilst in Iran for three years. Her research in Iran outlined the opportunities and security threats surrounding the adoption of blockchain in Iran, which was published on the eve of the government’s formal introduction of an Iranian cryptocurrency.
Committed to working at a grassroots level, be that using methods of restorative practice to address intercultural conflict, cultural mediation to assist newly arrived asylum seekers or giving voice to under-explored issues such as the intersection of religion, spirituality and extremism in Yemen, her recent focus has been researching pathways to radicalisation in the migration routes of the Northern Mediterranean.
Sophia holds a BA in Arabic and Persian from SOAS and an MA in Iranian Studies from Tehran University. She speaks Arabic, Farsi and French.
