Meet the Experts
Senior Expert, Organized Crime Branch, Division for Treaty Affairs, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria
Since July 2003, Karen Kramer has worked as a senior expert in the Implementation Support Section, of the Organized Crime Branch, Division for Treaty Affairs, at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna. In this capacity, she leads and manages the substantive expertise and programmatic coordination of the technical assistance project, The Global Programme for Strengthening the Capacities of Member States to Prevent and Combat Organized and Serious Crime (GPTOC), which aims to support Member States in the effective implementation of the UN Organized Crime Convention.
Before joining UNODC, Ms. Kramer spent over ten years as a criminal justice practitioner (prosecuting and defending), one year as the Chief of Staff of the Violence against Woman Office, at the US Department of Justice. In addition, she spent three and a half years working Sofia, Bulgaria, leading and managing technical assistance programmes focused on corruption, criminal justice reform, organized crime and trafficking in persons, for the US Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Office of Prosecutor Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) and for the American Bar Association’s Central and Eastern European Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI).
