The Global Initiative was pleased to attend and present at the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research’s is invitation-only briefing on the results of a DFID funded project: “The Crime-Conflict Nexus: Assessing the Threat and Developing Solutions.”

The event took place in London, England on Friday, 24 March 2017 at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), in the Library Room from 12:00pm to 5:30pm.

The event featured top international experts on the nexus between organized crime and conflict including:

  • Dr. Vanda Felbab-Brown (Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute)
  • Dr. Mark Shaw (Director of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime)
  • Ms. Tuesday Reitano (Deputy Director of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime)
  • Dr. James Cockayne (Head of Office at the United Nations University, New York)
  • Dr. Sasha Jesperson (Director of the Centre for the Study of Modern Slavery, St. Mary’s University Twickenham)
  • Mr. Juan Carlos Garzón-Vergara (Global Fellow, Wilson Centre and Fellow at the Fundación Ideas para la Paz )
  • Dr. John de Boer (Senior Policy Advisor, United Nations University Centre for Policy Research)

Experts presented the results of research that assesses the impact of criminal agendas on conflict dynamics, peace negotiations, and transitions from war to peace in Afghanistan, Colombia, El Salvador, Libya, Nigeria, and Myanmar.
