Programme Manager – Afghan Opiate Trade Project (AOTP), UNODC

BIOGRAPHY

Mike Osman is currently the Programme Manager for the UNODC’s Afghan Opiate Trade Project (AOTP).  His current responsibilities include collecting, analysing and disseminating data on the global trade in Afghan Opiates, and supporting the capacity building of research in Afghanistan and the neighbouring countries.

Before joining the UNODC, Mr Osman worked for the UK Government analysing and assessing the links between organised crime, terrorism, insurgency and political instability.  He spent 4 years in Afghanistan working with NATO and Afghan counter-narcotics  and counter-insurgency forces. He worked for a number of years as a political analyst for the UK Ministry of Defence, and spent a year in Iraq as part of the post-war team investigating Iraq’s alleged WMD Programmes.

Mr Osman has a Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and a Diploma in contemporary security studies from the NATO Defense College in Rome.
